Follow these steps to install a GPL theme:

  1. Buy theme from GPL Originals
  2. Download the theme from My Account page
  3. Go to WordPress dashboard, click on Appearance->Themes  -> Upload 
  4. Once uploaded click on activate

Upload the Child and Parent theme one by one. Once done activate the Child Theme. It is an important process. The parent theme works in the backend for the child theme.

See the screenshot given below. We have installed Woodstock and Woodstock child. Here activated theme is Woodstock child.

You have successfully installed the theme. Now you can proceed with important plugin and theme demo installation.

Note – Generally, there is no license key with GPL themes. Most of the themes and plugins will work without a key. Yet, you can check the product activation tab for additional info or you can enter any random key, it will work.

How to update a GPL Theme?

Please follow the steps provided below to update a GPL Theme –

Important – You will not lose your data and settings by following this method. Yet, keep a backup for security. You can use any backup theme to take your website backup.

First download the updated theme from your My Account page or by searching on our website.

Unzip or extract the downloaded package if needed

4. Go to the WordPress dashboard then click Appearance -> Themes -> Add New -> Upload Now

Click replace current with uploaded

Important – we generally upload parent or main theme. There is no need to update the child theme

Wow, You just did it. The theme update is complete now. You can update the required plugins if needed.

Some Common Installation and Update Issues

Theme is under Zip file (The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.)

It is very important that some themes are compressed along with documentation, license, images and required plugins, in such case you have to extract the zip file first then find the main theme and install that file only.

Issue 2 – Install Theme & Plugin at respective locations

Remember that the Plugins, extensions, and addons should be uploaded in the Plugins section. And themes in the Appearance section.

Issue 3 – Hosting requirements for installation and use of products

Before you purchase a product on the website, make sure that your hosting meets the following minimum requirements:

  • Web server based on Apache or NGINX with 512MB of RAM
  • PHP version 7.0 or 7.2 (versions 7.1, 7.3, 7.4 may not be compatible)
  • MySQL version 5.7+ or MariaDB version 10.1+
  • Apache module mod_rewrite

To avoid getting errors during the installation of the product, make sure that you are using the correct PHP settings on your web server:

max_execution_time = 600
max_input_vars = 5000
memory_limit = 512M
post_max_size = 512M
upload_max_filesize = 512M

Issue 4 – Upload big size theme through FTP or cPanel Upload

For themes with a weight of more than 50 megabytes (which include the different templates), it is necessary that you make your upload through FTP or CPanel upload.
